Marinella Senatore

Marinella Senatore (Italy, 1977) lives and works in Paris and London. Her practice is characterised by public participation. The idea is to foster the creative power of a crowd, initiating a dialogue between history, culture and social structures. She works with a wide range of mediums including video, drawing, performance, installation, photography, sound, painting and sculpture. The projects sometimes take the form of open workshops in which participants adopt the roles of non-professional actors, scriptwriters, costume designers, camera operators, set designers, dancers etc. Creating new possibilities for public engagement, the local communities are involved in different ways: residents share their skills and expertise or acquire new ones, negotiating with the artist to determine the part each person will play in the project.
